Evidence for the Formation Of The Moon
I continue to read all sorts of science book for recreation.  Physics, astronomy, and geology are among my favorites.  With that as a foundation, my brother was an astronaut and flew on two space shuttle missions.  His second mission was STS-48 and the orbital map for that mission had a dark area named the "South Atlantic Anomaly."   When I asked what that was, I was told it was an area on earth that has some effect on shuttle missions with higher orbits.  I instantly saw that as evidence for when the moon formed.  Here's my train of thought:

As the earth was forming, a variety of processes led to the formation of the earth's dense core.  The metals under high temperatures and pressures migrated to the core - and under those high temperatures and pressures, metamorphasized into material with special properties.  This is common near the surface as we experience carbon in forms ranging from peat bogs, to graphite, and ultimately diamonds.  The special properties of this core material - higher density being one  of them - might be such that if this core material found its way to other layers, it might not be able to completely return to the innermost core region.

Now for the glancing impact that formed the moon.    Current theories have the moon forming from the accreting material from the impact.  I think what is missing is the effect on the earth itself.  I think the impact was so large, that its effects were felt by the earth's core - in fact so much so that some of the core material was displaced to the opposite side (South Atlantic) of the earth.  As previously suggested, not all this core material made its way back and the intrusion of the higher density core material into the lower density layers is what we see as the South Atlantic Anomaly today.

As a side note, if the South Atlantic Anomaly really is the displaced core material from the moon-forming impact, the impact must have happened on the Pacific side.  Perhaps a lingering thinning of the earth's crust from the moon-forming impact is what gave rise to the hot spot that formed the Hawaiian Islands.

3 Took out our old well house.   Our old well was next to the house and after cutting the 1" well water pipe, I plan to use the empty pipe as a casing for a 1/2" water line and electrical feed cable for the greenhouse.
4 Removed well head tank in our basement and other old stuff from the well.  Purchased and laid out the new water line and electrical cable to the greenhouse.
5 Started filling in greenhouse service trench.
6 Erected the walls of the greenhouse with my son's help.  I REALLY like how it looks!
7 Filled in more of the greenhouse service trench.  Added corner braces to the greenhouse walls and set the first rafter joist.
8 Set 2 more rafter joists on the greenhouse.
9 Finished the greenhouse rafter joists.  Cut out rafters and braces.
10 Routed and sanded the edges of the boards for the greenhouse rafters.
11 Finished routing and sanding rafters for the greenhouse.
12 Built the rafters on the greenhouse.  Added extra supports to the north wall frame.
13
14 Planted basil seeds under fluorescent lights in our basement greenhouse.

Finished exterior 2x4's on the outside greenhouse.  Started setting 8x16" 4" thick solid concrete blocks for the floor in the greenhouse.

15 Picked up a pallet load of potting soil from a local farm supply store.
16
17
18 Made iron stands ( http://www.bluebirdmeadows.com/Mini-Iron-stand.htm ) and notecards (  http://www.bluebirdmeadows.com/Notecard-home.htm ) for Quilt Show in Ft. Wayne, IN this weekend.
19 Started building frame for the south bay of greenhouse shelving.

Drove to Ft. Wayne, IN and set up as a vendor at a Quilt Show.

20 Attended our vendor booth at a Ft. Wayne, IN Quilt Show.
21 Started seeds for tomatoes and most peppers under fluorescent lights in basement greenhouse.
22 Started seeds for the rest of peppers, herbs, and flowers under fluorescent lights in basement greenhouse.
23 Set 3 rows of floor blocks in the outside greenhouse.
24 Set 1 more row of blocks in the floor of the outside greenhouse.
25 Finished setting whole floor blocks.  I left all the edge & end blocks which need to be trimmed for a winter work project.
26 Continued working the frames for the greenhouse south bay of shelves.

Set up a vendor booth at a local high school for a Craft Show on Saturday.

27 Worked our vendor booth at a local high school Craft Show.
28 Finished building the framework for the greenhouse south bay of shelves.
29 Started cutting wood frame for the greenhouse north bay of shelves.
30 Bought plywood for the greenhouse north wall and the greenhouse storm door.
