On the heels of melting snow, crocus race upward to add the first colors to a spring day. Although a small flower, their bright colors stand out in the drabness of the ground formerly blanketed by the winter’s snow.
This photo is a good example of optical balance. The yellow and blue crocus provide a left and right balance. Secondly the tiny crocus at the bottom balances with the fully open one at the top. I selected a perspective where the fully open crocus would be standing alone. Lastly, a traditional rectangular format seemed too "boxy" and I thought the scene had a better feel by using an oval cropping.
