"You’re catching on!" said Adam in an approving voice. "What should WE do today to make the world a better place?"

"Show people the power of God in Stevie’s new found eyesight?" said the pastor half as a question.

"Right again" said Adam as it was clear that the pastor’s earlier excitement had been displaced by rational thinking.

As the two emerged from the cabin, hundreds of people were there to greet them. Some people applauded, others knelt in reverence. Some media thrust tape recorders and microphones in Adam’s face. Adam answered a couple of questions while walking and soon worked his way free to greet many of the people who had gathered. In the end, Adam and Pastor Kanger took off down the nature trail talking with several clergy members, about a dozen media representatives, and about 50 citizens.

As they came upon one of the clearings along the nature trail, Adam took a seat on one of the rocks. The others sat on adjacent rocks, logs, or the meadow which opened next to the trail.

"Members of the clergy" began Adam, "Why do you believe what you believe?"

There was a long silence. Finally a Roman Catholic Priest answered "I find God’s words in the Holy Scriptures."

Adam replied "That is the answer to WHAT you believe - or WHERE you find it - but WHY do you believe the Holy Scriptures?"

The priest answered "They have been handed down through the ages as the chosen words of God."

"Are there no recent ‘Chosen words of God’?" queried Adam.

"No, nothing official. Are you suggesting the Holy Scriptures are wrong?" asked the priest defiantly.
