Adam spent the rest of the morning getting cleaned up and looking at the things in his cabin. He knew this was his cabin, yet the contents seemed to belong to someone else. He looked through his wallet at the drivers license, the credit cards, and all of the other things tucked away. Most of the contents were still wet from the rain the night before and his walk in the lake earlier that morning.Adam laid everything out so it would dry. Even the money looked strange to Adam. He picked up a few of the bills and examined them carefully as if they were some foreign currency.Adam felt especially strange as he handled the items belonging to Susan and Becky. He felt no remorse, but had a feeling of longing for some good friends. As he cleaned up, Adam stood for a long time looking in the mirror. The image staring back at him looked distant, strange, even a bit out of focus. It didnt really seem to be him and yet it followed his every move.Adam knew he would be having guests before the end of the day, but not sure who they would be or what he would say. He sat with his feet stretched out on the couch. He watched through the window as small groups would walk down to the beach, an adult or sometimes one of the children from the morning would point to different places and seemed to be acting out the mornings events. Most of these groups would ultimately end with the person pointing to Adams cabin, and in seeing him look out from his window, the group would then quickly disappear. There was a knock at the door. Adams confusion disappeared as he got up to answer the door. In an instant his mind was clear, focused, and his energy from the morning was with him again. His mission was about to take its next step."Mr. Adam Sampson? Im Lisa Walters from TV23. Would you mind answering some questions about what happened at the lake today?""Of course not. Please come in" said Adam as he gestured to Lisa, her crew and the pastor. As Adam closed the door, he noticed a group of people had gathered near the TV van and were curiously watching to see what would happen. |
