Chapter 24

And Then . . .

In the weeks that followed A Day With God, the world wrestled with what to do with what they had experienced. Most of the news reports dealt with some aspect of the reactions or implementation of the events surrounding Adam Sampson. Each of the millions who attended A Day With God continued to radiate an inner glow to everyone they met.
The hottest debates raged with the world’s religious leaders. The recent events were hard to ignore. Many of the major religions were divided on the issue - one party holding dearly to the ancient manuscripts alone - the other side wanting to blend in the ancient writings along with the experiences of Adam Sampson. In several regions, a ‘Sampsonite’ religion emerged where followers largely ignored ancient writings altogether and focused their attention only on Adam Sampson and what they perceived as his teachings.
As the weeks became years, Dr. O’Connor and his wife teamed with Jamahl Washington to form an organization called Partnerships For Urban Success. The doctor made contacts with the wealthy and secured lines of funding. Jamahl and the doctor’s wife joined forces to set up networks in most of the major urban areas. Jamahl made use of his inner city knowledge while Margaret unleashed her endless energy to coordinate efforts and to keep careful records. Sponsors were linked to their urban focus areas or focus families and blended selected direct funding with an accountability for results in the benefactors. Urban areas found their path to success through countless partnerships. Political solutions became unimportant in comparison and most were eventually abandoned.
Sue Bailey, who had healed Melissa Meyers of her burns, resigned from broadcasting. Initially she worked with the O’Connors and Jamahl Washington. Later, they all agreed to separate the financial efforts from the physical efforts. Sue created a new organization called Exercise For A Better World. As an alternative to health clubs, Sue’s organization combined physical exercise with doing something positive for the community. In good weather trash was collected, trees were planted, gardens were made, and things were painted. In bad weather, structures of all sorts were cleaned and fixed. Most communities eventually had their own Exercise For A Better World as well as Partnerships For Urban Success.
