Early the next morning, Adam was contacted by the promoters who had reluctantly agreed to put on A Day With God. Adam complimented them on their wisdom and told them he was planning on making a tour of the country while the promoters were making all the arrangements. Adam accepted a cellular phone from the leader of the promotion group to keep informed of developments in the program and to make a host of logistical decisions. After completing their business in the city, Adam, Pastor Kanger, Jamahl, and the author departed for a tour of the country. A local car dealer had donated a custom van to Adam after seeing how poorly Jamahl fit into the pastors car. The van allowed the foursome to travel in comfort and actively discuss what they had done or were going to do. Each of the group took a turn driving at some time during their travels.Following Adams group was a variable sized array of media trucks and private citizen vehicles. In some states and counties they were joined by large police escorts. At other times, the group seemed to be without any police escort. The first few days resulted in stops at several farms along the way. Adam seemed to enjoy the open country air. While touring one large dairy barn Adam remarked "Farmers are among the closest to God and Gods works. Everywhere you look, you see processes which perform energy conversions according to Gods great designs. Look at the sun, the soil, the crops, the animals - each evidence of Gods great engineering!"The group next visited several urban areas in the path of their travels. In the cities, Jamahl was regarded as some sort of folk hero. He wasnt a polished speaker, yet his slow soft delivery carried with it such great force he was able to get large groups of people to take action. He was especially loved by the inner city youth. On several occasions, Jamahl led cleanup-fixup sweeps in an area of urban decay. The pastor and Adam watched from the sidelines as this giant, who was once a cancer on society - took a slum and made it better - and also offered words of encouragement to the residents about how to fight to keep it from slipping into decay. He had been there himself. He knew.At one point in their travels, Adam asked the author where he would like to visit. "A National Park" was the answer and after checking their supply of road maps, they found themselves at an extensive wildlife preserve. Since they had good weather, they went for a hike on one of the trails. They didnt see much wildlife as the foursome was joined by the noise of several mobile TV crews and about a hundred assorted others. After three or four miles they rested by a stream. Adam and several others removed their shoes and socks to soak their feet in the cool waters. |
