Chapter 15

How To Heal

It took several minutes for the room to be emptied and the crew to get set up. Adam, the doctor and Sue walked through where the girl’s bed would be parked, and how the cameras would be arranged to get the scene. Adam seemed to be very intent on making sure the media got quality footage of what was about to happen. Finally they were ready.
Melissa and her bed were wheeled into the designated parking spot. "Doctor, I’d like you to expose some of the burned tissue" directed Adam. "If we do something you object to, just say the word and we will stop."
The doctor cut away and unwrapped some of the gauze on the girl’s right hand. There was noticeable reddening and then some blisters as more of the covering was removed.
"How’s this?" asked the doctor.
"Fine" replied Adam. "Miss Bailey, please hold Melissa’s left hand."
Sue inched toward the bed and held the girl’s unaffected left hand. The girl was in a state of semi-consciousness, mostly due to the medications. "Now what?"
"You will need to clear your mind of all distractions and then you will tell Melissa that you are accepting responsibility for her burns" stated Adam.
"What exactly should I say?" asked Sue.
"God will give you the words" Adam answered. Adam looked around to make sure the cameras, microphones, and lights were correctly positioned. "Would everyone be quiet please? Miss Bailey needs to concentrate."
Sue closed her eyes.
"That’s good" whispered Adam. "Empty your mind and open your heart to God’s helping hand."
