"Mrs. Jones, do you have a $20 bill that I can borrow?" asked Adam. Pastor Kanger looked on with puzzlement since it was not like Adam to be asking for money."No sir" answered Mabel. "Im a little short on cash right now - but Ive got a 10 if you want it.""What did you do with the last 20 you had?" asked Adam in a courtroom like manner."Last Friday I bought some out of date bread at the bakery down the street and gave it to some of the homeless over by the railroad" responded Mabel."Couldnt you have used that money on yourself?" asked Adam "Bought better food for you and the kids - or some new clothes?""We have what we need" answered Mabel, now really wondering what Adam was driving at. "I couldnt feel good about eating high when I know so many have nothing at all.""Mrs. Jones, you are truly a person of God!" proclaimed Adam. "You are doing everything you possibly can with all the gifts God has made available to you. You ignore your personal gains in favor of serving the less fortunate. You expect nothing in return. You implement your belief in God every day - in every way you know how. The world could learn a great deal from you."Adam got up from the sofa and shook Mabels hand. "We must be going" said Adam. "Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.""From what I have been able to see, you know exactly what to do to help everyone" said Mabel. "Dont give up!""I promise you I wont" answered Adam who squeezed out the door. The first media asked Adam a question, but Adam didnt answer. Instead he asked what the reporter had done that day to make the world a better place. The reporter said he couldnt think of anything. Adam responded "Lets change that!" and promptly lead the reporter and the rest of the followers down to the streets. |
