"Members of the media, I will not be shouted at" announced Adam rather sternly. "When you have found your manners, then I will talk to you. For now, Pastor Kanger and I have places to go. Please excuse us."Adam and the pastor worked their way past the still silent media and reached Arthurs car. With their baggage in the trunk, they climbed in. The police helped them back up carefully and leave the apartment complex. Once the car had reached the street, the media regained their voices. They combined packing their gear with blaming each other for getting in trouble.Pastor Kanger just drove rather aimlessly through the city until Adam started telling him where to turn. A growing media group was trying to follow, but the size of the group and the traffic lights limited the numbers that were able to keep up. Adam seemed to get more and more intent with each direction, like a hound on the path of its prey. Finally, with the car in the center of the bad part of town Adam directed that Arthur pull over and stop. The pastor caught himself about to ask Adam if he was sure about this. By now, the pastor understood that Adams actions were with purpose and direction."Come on, padre" directed Adam. "Theres someone Id like you to meet."As they got out of the car, media and police arrived in droves and began to follow Adam and the pastor as they entered a run down apartment building. They walked up to the third story. Adam slowly walked alone down the hallway ahead of the rest. He stopped at the door to apartment 308 and knocked.A middle-aged woman answered the door. "Yes?" was the response by the surprised tenant."Mabel Jones?" asked Adam."Why yes!" answered the woman in surprise. |
