With a check of her notes, Denise asked "Does God have a name like you and me?"Adam thought for a moment then responded "Its probably best to stick with the gravity analogy. Gravity doesnt assign itself a name - call itself gravity. When we refer to God, or whatever name we choose, we are assigning a name to the force which governs all forces; the spirit that governs all spirits. To answer your question, the only names for God are those that people have created. Like gravity, God simply IS.""Are we wrong then to refer to God as a Him?" asked Denise."Do you assign a personality to gravity? Assign a gender? You would do better to think of God as you think of gravity - in all places, acting upon us all the time. As we run and jump into the air, we seem to defy gravity for a time. The physicists will tell you this is not true. For a time you can exert a force greater than gravity, but gravity always pulls you back. The same is true with God and man. Since we have the ability to make our own decisions, we have the ability to depart from Gods way. God will prevail, you can be sure - its only a matter of time and place.""What about Satan? Is there a devil?" asked Denise quietly so as not to offend Adam - or perhaps to avoid being struck down by lightning."There is one God" answered Adam. "You have seen God take someones ears. On Monday, God will paralyze the legs of about half the people on earth. At times even a good father will inflict suffering on his children to teach a lesson. The concept of the devil and Satan were created to allow the ancients to understand the concepts of good and bad and understand which was Gods way. Today we have grown to the point where we can better understand gravity. We can now also better understand God.""Does this mean that there isnt a hell or heaven?" asked Denise in puzzlement. |
