Organic Farm - Grape Field
Organic Farm Tour

Organic Farm Grape Field

Our Grape Field is a bit unusual for several reasons.  We decided to NOT grow grapes for commercial reasons but leave them for wildlife.  To make them easier to maintain, I removed every other row of grapes.   The wider rows make mowing easier.  I was careful in removing the grape plants and transplanted them to the East Grape Field.

One of our many bluebird houses can he seen in the foreground of the photo.  Although I trim the vines each winter, the photo attests to the fact that I don't spend much time or money during the summer keeping the weeds down.   Being the only one working a 20 acre farm, I can't do everything I'd like to.   Maybe next year . . .

This winter photo shows the grapes after trimming.  Also, I was able to chop out all the weeds under the grape wires before these snows covered everything.

August 27, 2003 - The birdhouse is now overgrown with grapes.  I have removed the grapes in the center area and replaced them with sunflowers in the near section and winter squash in the south section.  (As an Organic Farm, we just couldn't get healthy grapes without all the chemicals)
