A brilliant sunflower head announces the hot days of summer.

If you have grown sunflowers, you know that the leaf pattern in this photo is wrong - the bloom doesn't form in the middle of a whorl of leaves like this.  This photo was a digital scanner image.  I don't like using computer paint programs to fill in around the edges of subjects, so I just arranged some extra sunflower leaves to fill in the spaces.  I also closed the scanner cover partly, to create the gray color in the gaps between the leaves.
