The larger St. Joseph lighthouse seems to be teaching the smaller one how to light the night sky. With both lights glowing their brightest, their efforts are in vain to keep the sky’s fire burning. Throughout the night, the lighthouses pulse a reminder of the warm sun into the depths of darkness. At dawn, they help the sun ignite the morning sky and welcome a new day.
This photograph was taken well after sunset. A vertical formal was selected to capture the subtle shades of dark orange in the sky. Patience was required to wait until all the fishing boats had moved out of the scene. Finally, the shutter release was timed for the moment both lights were at their brightest.
