This photograph was a classic game of "chicken."  I wanted to get as close as I could to the seagull.  My first effort caused the wary gull to fly away before I could get a photo.  I made a mark in the sand with my shoe to indicate how far I had come.  I left, allowing the gull to return to his favorite spot on the beach.   On my second attempt, I stopped short of my mark in the sand and was able to get the photo I wanted.
