If you visit the Smoky Mountains in eastern Tennessee, there's two things you MUST experience. This first is Gattlingburg. The second is Cades Cove. The two are about as opposite as you can get. In Gattlinburg there are people - elbow to elbow, waiting their turn in a cute shop or stocking up for their daily serving of 5 pounds of nut fudge. In Cades Cove, there are few people and open meadows nestled near the mountains. The deer are abundant and fairly tolerant of people. Guess which place I would prefer?
This photo is a fairly good example of the rule of thirds with lines and areas. The lower 1/3 is meadow, the middle 1/3 is trees, and the upper 1/3 in mountains/sky. The most predominant mountain peak is at the intersection of the upper 1/3 line and the left 1/3 line.
