Squam lake in New Hampshire is a picturesque place in the fall. The greens of the pines contrast sharply with the reds and oranges of the changing leaf colors. I expect to see a native American family in their canoe as each bay of the lake comes in view.
This photo shows the horizon at a lower 1/3 line and the vertical lines of the trees occupy the right 1/3 of the scene. An interesting aspect of this photo is the sky, which has nothing in it, forces your eyes to leave that area of void and go to the lower right section of the photo. It's fascinating how "nothing" can balance with "something" and how offering an area of a photo with nothing for your eyes to look at, can cause your eyes to go to the area where you want to create visual emphasis.
