In the foothills of the mountains west of Sheridan, Wyoming are some dazzling areas of wild flowers. These looked like cousins to brown-eyed susans and sunflowers. Such flowers are difficult to see for us Michigan flat-land boys as the nearby mountains seem to demand our undivided attention.
This photograph captured one of my field techniques to improve a scene. I wanted to have a photo which had a single flower in the lower right balancing a small group of flowers in the upper left. I felt the effect would be stronger with an open area between the two flower groups, however, there was a small flower in the wrong place. If you notice, the lowest flower of the upper left grouping has its stem twisted around the others to create the green open area- and set apart the single flower in the lower right. When I had the photo, I untwisted the stems and returned the little flower where I had found it.
