In this photo, I tried to show the relationship between the mountains in the background and the rocks in the foreground - it's the water in-between which is responsible for the erosion which can crumble a mountain into rocks.
This photo was going to have a great depth - from close rocks to distant mountains - so I selected a vertical format. I framed the scene to have the piece of driftwood and the shoreline on the right point toward the distant mountains. A polarizing filter was used to cut the glare of the water as I was able to find a distinctive red rock in the lower left to balance the shoreline on the right. Lastly, the reflection line between the mountains and the water was placed on the upper 1/3 line.
