The St. Joseph, Michigan Silver Beach has long been a haven for beach volleyball.  Although the beach has been upgraded in recent years to steel pipe supports for nets and carefully placed courts, when I played, we would bury long driftwood tree trunks for the uprights.  This photograph is the player's view at the end of a tiring evening of hitting the leather and eating sand - finally drinking some well-earned refreshments and exagerating the play-by-plays from some of the better volleys of the day.

The most important part to this photograph (and generally the most neglected aspect of photography) was remembering to take the camera along.  As the players left the court, I pulled the camera from my athletic tote bag.  I selected a position to have the volleyball net form a leading line to the sunset.  The sunset was placed just inside the far upright, creating a clear image of the net at the far post, but fading on the right side of the photo so the right upright seems to blend in with the encroaching night sky.
