Maps can be deceiving. Living in southwestern Michigan, I expected the beaches along the Lake Superior shore to be the same sandy beaches we have in Berrien County - they both look the same on a map. What a surprise! I've never seen so many rocks in all my life! It was a hot day, so I tried swimming in Lake Superior as well. I learned a lot on that vacation.
I liked this vertical perspective of the shoreline - it seemed to show the undercutting potential for the icy waters to drag the zillion rocks down to the beach. I devoted the right two thirds to the land and only a touch of the Great Lake itself. I generally don't like the horizon in the middle of a photo, but I wanted to catch the hint of a "beach" in the lower left as well as one tree and a taste of the clouds in the upper right. Oh, well.
