Sometimes the hours spent on the hiking trails at a nature center really pay off - if you're lucky, you capture a wild animal unaware of your presence. That's always quite a thrill - only that didn't happen here. This little guy was a pest! He followed me everywhere! At one time he tried to eat a frog I was trying to photograph. Several times I found him arranging things in my camera bag when I had my back turned. Yes, he was a pain - but I will always cherish the memories of our day together.
This was a challenging subject for reasons opposite of what is normally encountered with a wild animal - he was always too close! I couldn't shake him. Finally, I decided to take a photo of him walking down the path - he was following me like a dog. As I walked, I put on a short telephoto lens. Then I jogged into a bit of a clearing, turned around and laid on my stomach, as I wanted a shot at his eye level. I quickly focused on a little tuft of grass that jutted into the trail. When the raccoon's nose reached the tuft of grass, I took the photo.
